I have a cold. Which for me means bonus attention time. I get to tell everybody I'm "sick as a dog." And everybody feels bad for me. It's great. I mean I feel like garbage and all. From stealing their attention too. But despite the aches and all, I get to pretend like I'm dying. I have some morbid sense about me that likes to entertain such thoughts. You know, picture my own funeral. Girls have their weddings planned out from birth. I can tell you what kind of flowers I want at my graveside...

So how about a little politics? Donald Trump is planning to build a tower. And like all things Trump of course it is meant as a tribute to himself. So I'm hoping for a massive failure. One to see the Donald lose. Two, to show him that Chicago is different, that we have different priorities, different character than New York. We aren't all about showing off, and trying to impress others. We are low key. So we can hopefully hand the Donald another big fat bankruptcy and show him that Chicago is better than him.

Of course, I'll admit to my conflict of interest. I'd love to build a bigger tower in Chicago, and the last thing I need is Trump to steal my market first. How many world's tallest buildings can one city support?

I went to a wedding last week, one of those really frum ones, where the couple are two people from normal homes, but want to be very chareidi, so they have a wedding that would make Gd proud. They had a Mechitza (divider) up that split the room in half and was at least ten feet tall. All good. Except that none of the guests were that religious. So co-ed mingling ensued non-the-less. You can't stop human nature...

Welcome! I am slowly emerging from the veils of internet secrecy. I have been linked from CampusJ as a YU Alumnus. My fame slowly gathers. Of course, with attention comes tact. I apologize to anyone who was hoping for anything really embarassing. I set this blog up as a way for me to vent unrestrained, but that plan relyed on a modicum of anonymity. Now that some will know me by name, I'll have to tame up a bit. You'll probably notice some missing posts. And some of my future stuff won't be nearly as embarassing. But I still plan to have fun with this!

Another away message

Awshreck [10:13 AM]: that's what I get for being quasi-yeshivish

I guess I give out the good lines!

I've done it again! I wrote a letter to the editor of the Yeshiva University Commentator. Now it's getting blogged. I can't stay out of trouble.

Here's the link to the original letter http://www.yucommentator.com/news/859172.html

That was blogged at CampusJ.com http://www.campusj.com/index.php?section=news&album_id=20&PHPSESSID=9994b75a4c7b9d26c5d388e83fed92ce

And the letter, which quoted a website, had a response posted by the webmaster of that site on the original website quoted http://www.angelfire.com/la3/jdeutsch/

In case that site goes down, I'll copy the text of that response here.

Begin Quote

Dear Joshua,
I think it's pretty obvious that you're overreacting. As you can see, these photographs offer only circumstantial evidence. The fact that you even managed to find this website tells me that you have way too much time on your hands. Perhaps in the future your time would be better spent getting a life or, dare I suggest, a sense of humor.
Love,
Lex

P.S. Weren't you SOY President way back in 2000? Maybe you didn't get the memo, but college ended 5 years ago. The sooner you get over the fact that your "glory days" are over, the sooner you can move on with your life and out of your mother's basement.

End Quote

Ah, quoted by name. Could I be any happier? Quote giddy on this side. I'm definitely having fun now!

One of my friends had the following away message on his AIM. Amazingly, it seems to be about me, to the 'T'.

Today I salute you Mr. Compulsive Away Message Checker. While most people are out actually having a normal life, you are at home reading about it on your computer screen.. Right mouse click, Get Buddy Info, or the little Info box at the bottom of the Buddy List. You have people on that list you haven't talked to in years, but you still loyally read their away messages everyday to see what they are up to. So, crack open an ice cold Bud Light, Marauder of the mousepad and don't wander too far from your computer because you never know when someone's away message may change.

Today I took part again in my favorite pastime, writing a letter to the editor of the Chicago Tribune. This one read:

Dear Editor,
I can understand why the Iraqi Sunni's are willing to put their lifeon the line to free Iraq from the American charade of Democracy:

They've lost the right to minority rule.
They've lost the right to funnel the country's money into their own hands.
They've lost the right to use the police force to intimidate theopposition into submission.
They've lost the right to torture, rape and kill their fellow citizens.

I see why the insurgents are fighting for Iraqi independence. I justdon't understand why our own compassionate liberal Americans aren'twilling to fight for their rights as well.

I send these off every so often, for issues ranging from sports to architecture to foreign affairs. I have an opinion on everything. And often some clever way with expressing words. So why not share it?
